How to Format Text in MS Word 2016

In order to draw the attention of the people to some specific parts in a document you need to format your text in various different ways. Formatting include changing the font type, size and the color etc. You can also learn about Modifying the Page Numbers in MS Word 2016.

Changing the Font Type:

In order to change the font type in MS Word you need to follow these steps.

  • First of all you are required to select the text which you want to modify.
  • Go to the Home tab and click on the drop-down arrow located next to Font Box.
  • From the drop-down menu select the Font Style.

This will change the font in the document.

Changing the Font Size in MS Word:

For changing the font size in MS Word follow these steps.

  • First of all you need to select the text which you need to modify.
  • Now go to the Home tab and then click on Font Size drop-down arrow.
  • Now from the menu you are required to select the font size.
  • Now if the required size is not present in the list you can type in the desired font size in Font Size Box.
  • After this you need to press Enter.

Changing the Font Color in MS Word

In order to change the font color of the text you need to follow these steps.

  • Select the text which you want to change.
  • Go to the Home tab and then click on Font Color.
  • Now select the color of the font which you want for your text.

Changing the Text Case in MS Word:

For changing the text case you need to follow these steps.

  • Select the text which you need to modify.
  • Go to the Home tab and then click on Change Case command which is located in Font group.
  • Once you click on Change Case a drop down menu will appear and from there you need to select the desired case option.

By following these steps you can easily change the case of the text easily.

Indenting a Line or a Paragraph in MS Word 2016

Indenting of a text in MS Word will add structure to the document by letting you separate the information. Whether you like to move a single line or a whole paragraph you can use the tab selector as well as the horizontal ruler for setting tabs and indents. In different types of document you may want to indent only the 1st line of the paragraph which will let you visually separate paragraphs from each other. Indenting by using Tab key:

The quickest way to add indent in a document with the help of Tab key. In order to add indent into a document by Tab key you are required to follow these steps.

  • 1st of all you need to place the insertion point at the beginning of the paragraph which you need to indent.
  • Now press the Tab key. On the ruler you will see the 1st line indent marker. Move to the right side by ½ inch.
  • Now the 1st line of the paragraph will be indented.

Indent Markers

In some scenarios you may want to have more control over indent and for this MS Word provides indent markers which will let you indent paragraphs to the location which you want. These indent markers are located to he left of the horizontal ruler and they provide several different options.

  • 1st Line Indent Marker (Adjusts the 1st line indent.)
  • Hanging Indent Marker (Adjusts the hanging indent)
  • Left Indent Marker (Moves the 1st line indent and hanging indent markers simultaneously)

Indent the Document by using Indent Markers.

  • Place the insertion point anywhere in the paragraph which you like to indent. You can select more than one paragraphs.
  • Now click and then drag the desired indent marker. Here we will click and drag the left indent marker.
  • Now release the mouse and you will see that the paragraph has been indented.

Modifying the Page Numbers in MS Word

Many of us must have trouble in adding page numbers in MS Word. It is one of the most common problems for the students who are working on their academic notes. For adding numbers in the documents you can use section breaks and once the section break have added into your document and you will then be able to restart your page numbers and can also apply a different styles.

In order to add page numbers into your Word documents you need to follow these steps.

  • 1st of all you need to place your cursor on the page where you need to end your 1st section.
  • Now you need to go to the Page Layout tab and then you need to click the Breaks command.
  • Now select Next page from the menu.
  • You will notice that a section break has been added while creating a new section on the next page.
  • In order to continue you have to select the header as well as footer in the new section.
  • Now go to the Design tab and then deselect the Link to Previous command.
  • Now you need to modify the page numbers in the new section which depends on what you need. In order to restart your numbering you need to click the Page Number command and then select Format Page Numbers. Now from here onwards you will be able to select Start at: 1.
  • For reformatting the numbering you have to select the page number and then go back to Home tab. You can also modify the font, color and size etc.
